Hebrews Warning

What does it truly mean to hear the gospel and respond to it? In this message drawn from Hebrews chapter 2, we are confronted with one of the most sobering realities a believer can face: it is possible to be surrounded by truth, to sit among believers, to participate in the life of a church, and yet still drift past the very salvation being offered. The nautical image of drifting is striking. We do not always drift because we are rebellious. Sometimes we drift simply because we are not paying careful attention. The current of life, of busyness, of self-reliance, can carry us right past the dock without us even realizing it. The warning embedded in this passage is not meant to frighten us but to awaken us. It calls us to examine what we are actually trusting in. Are we resting in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, or have we quietly substituted religion, good works, family heritage, or moral effort in His place? The gospel is not a record of our accomplishments. It is the story of what Jesus accomplished on our behalf. When we understand that distinction, everything changes.
