Hebrews Warning #3

What does it mean to truly grow in faith, and how do we know if we are moving forward or standing still? This message takes us deep into the book of Hebrews, where a striking and sobering diagnosis is delivered to believers who have settled into spiritual stagnation. The central passage, drawn from Hebrews 5 and 6, confronts us with an uncomfortable truth: it is entirely possible to be a believer and yet remain spiritually immature for years, even decades. The author of Hebrews describes this condition as being dull or sluggish in hearing, still dependent on the milk of basic teaching when we should long have moved on to solid food. The parallel passage in 1 Corinthians 3 reinforces this, where Paul identifies worldliness, jealousy, and quarreling as signs that believers have not yet grown into the fullness of who they are called to be in Christ. The spiritual lesson here is both a challenge and an invitation. Maturity is not measured by how long we have been believers, but by how deeply we have allowed the Word of God and the Holy Spirit to transform us. We are called to move beyond the foundational basics, not abandoning them, but building upon them, so that we can distinguish good from evil, grow in righteousness, and become the living, breathing expression of Christ in the world around us.
